Landscape Review for March 2016

Sunday, March 13, 2016

What type of plant is evergreen and provides color most of the year?
Here are (3) three suggested easy to maintain plants for review.

Orange Bells (Tecoma Alata)
This specimen will endure varying levels of frost and may be cut back. The orange bell recovers quickly in the spring. The orange bell can be a large background shrub and combines well with tropical and related desert plants. May take full sun and heat, is drought tolerant, adapts to many soils, and is clean and low maintenance.

Mexican Yellow Bells (Tecoma Stans Stans)

This specimen emulates the positive qualities of the Orange Bell. Each of these is evergreen and may be pruned to be a large shrub or small tree.

Cape Honeysuckle (Tecomaria Capensis)

This specimen is evergreen, can withstand frost and may be pruned back in early spring. Recovery is rapid and can grow from a small shrub to 20’. The vibrant orange blooms appear over a long seasonal period and provides a great accent to the sage, little john, jubilees, hibiscus and succulents.

As Always! Review your clock (timer), anti-siphon valves, in-line valves, sprinklers, drip lines and emitters. Existing client clocks are being adjusted to reflect seasonal watering cycles. New clients may want to schedule an evaluation to ensure proper programming and irrigation.

This month, review the installation of new rock, granite, trees and shrubs. These ideas are the most cost effective ways to achieve that makeover look.

5 Useful Tips To Select A Landscape Design Services Company

Wednesday, January 28, 2015

From the perfect fragrances - to exploding colors - designs should pull the eyes and entice you to wander more deeply into them - from edibles to vase-quality bouquets, quality landscape design delivers a garden of delight.

This is why it is so important to hire exactly the right landscape design services company. Maintenance schedules need to be simple and affordable and plants should be climate-appropriate. Once you are ready to choose your new landscape design services - be sure to review these tips:

Five Useful Tips for Choosing Quality Landscape Design Services

  1. Make certain you have a very experienced landscaper. Skill and knowledge are essential in this field. When hiring a lesser known (aka more affordable) landscaper, be certain you only do this after seeing examples of long-term gardens previously designed and maintained by this person.
  2. Your qualified landscaper should be a member of associations related to the industry.
  3. An extremely busy landscaper may well not actually have the time to offer maintenance or support services.
  4. Interview several prospective landscapers in order to gauge their responsiveness and eagerness to deliver your landscaped garden. This will reveal if this landscaper will customize a design for your garden, work with your design ideas or help you to keep its current shape while keeping your additional needs and budget in mind.
  5. The best landscapers provide a guarantee on the work, the total cost of the project and the amount of time it will take to complete it. Some deviation is expected - but beyond flexibility - your landscaper should always deliver on his word.

Other Useful Advice

It is easier to get the best possible landscape design services company if you do a bit of research on exactly what kind of garden you want first. This way it is easier to communicate your needs to the landscaper you do hire.

Doing this will guarantee your garden looks absolutely fabulous. Not only will a stunning garden give you immense pleasure - it also spikes your resale values and adds to the comfort and pleasure available from your property. The right landscape design services company will build a truly inspiring garden for you.

Never hesitate to check references, go see works in progress, or test knowledge with specific design or plant choice questions. The investment you make in your proptery is reflected by how it looks on the outside. Make your neighbors jealous today - by having the most awe inspiring landscape designed for your home or business now.

Finding the Best Landscape Design Company

Monday, January 26, 2015

Your landscape is a special part of your property, and it should be aesthetically lovely. However, as a homeowner, it can be problematic to determine whether the landscape design company you are hiring has the correct certifications. But it is not that difficult if you know what to look for and the sort of questions to ask. There are plenty of landscaping design companies in Phoenix, AZ, so you may have quite a lot of choices to narrow down. To prevent settling for mediocre landscape solutions, we have provided you with the following tips that will guide you in selecting the best landscape design company.

License

Always hire a licensed landscaper. Unlicensed landscape design companies cannot be held responsible for not meeting the high standards set by the state licensing board in the case of a substandard project. Hiring an unlicensed landscaper gives you no recourse should you have a complaint against the company. As a homeowner, you want to find the best price that fits your budget, however, if you hire an un-accredited landscaper, the projects quality and completion is not assured.

Insurance

Proof of an insurance policy by the landscaper is an extremely paramount factor to consider before kick starting any landscaping project. An insurance policy protects your property in the event of damage or catastrophes such as fire. As a homeowner, you should not assume that the landscape design company you are hiring has obtained proper insurance.

Before handing the landscaper that project, demand to see the insurance policy and perform due diligence on their projects. If your landscaper is uninsured and an accident happens during the course of the project, you could be held liable.

Professional

Always hire a pro. Most people are willing to cut corners when it comes to hiring professionals services. Do not settle for landscape construction services that are not good enough. The best professional landscape design companies will always offer work guarantee. Find out which of their products are under warranty, what is exclusively covered, and the length of the warranty.

Additionally, you may have questions about proper maintenance of specific appliances including watering schedule of the plants. A good professional landscaper will always be available to answer your questions and offer service to you once your project is finished.

Experience

Landscape design requires experience, and most homeowners get puzzled when it comes to selecting the best landscape contractor. Don’t get stuck in this situation because it can cause more worries than benefits. Research from the web and ask for referrals from friends.

A reliable team will have positive reviews from its previous clients. However, this does not imply that new landscape design companies aren’t good enough, but there is always something to be said about a company that has been serving clients for some time.

Communication

Proper communication is a very important aspect for the ultimate success of any landscape construction project. Ensure that the landscaper you hire is open to communication and is willing to give you a detailed progress report and updates on the ongoing landscaping project. Most professional companies are open to communication.

Cost of the Contract

Before starting the project, get an estimate from your landscaper. Discuss with him or her whether the quote is fixed or just an estimate. Also, inquire how cost changes will be handled in the course of the project. Ensure that you sign a contract approving to the circumstances. A contract guarantees scope of work. In terms of payment, don’t make a huge down payment at the beginning of a project. Offer structured down payments.

Getting the Best Phoenix lawn care service

Thursday, January 22, 2015

A beautiful lawn enhances your property's curb appeal, increases your home's value, and improves quality of life for those that live there and visit you.  Finding a quality landscaping and lawn care service is especially important if you live in the Phoenix, Arizona area. There are many factors that come into play when getting the best Phoenix lawn care service:

A High Maintenance Job Needs The Right Tools

Maintaining a landscaped yard in Phoenix is difficult work.  It’s way too hot over half the year, dirty work and very exhausting.  It takes a lot of effort and time away from your daily life.  Most people do not have the time, knowledge or desire to maintain the lawn themselves--even if so, it requires precision.  Maintaining your own yard also requires many lawn equipment and tools that are costly.  A Phoenix lawn care service will provide all the tools needed AND the knowledge required to care of your lawn properly.

Proper Hydration is Key

One of the main requirements of lawn care in Phoenix is keeping grass hydrated and avoid drying from the desert heat. The seasons are not normal in the desert climate, therefore keeping green plants green is a challenge. Even if you have turf (fake) grass, you are up against a lot of care. Applying the proper amount of water to landscaped plants and turf/grass can be difficult at times.  Providing the proper amount of water has many effects; proper plant development and health, proper drainage and a lower water bill.  Your water bill can be unnecessarily high due to improper lawn care. It's important to hire a lawn care professional that understands all aspects of irrigation.  Phoenix lawn care services have extensive knowledge on irrigation, plants that need special care in the desert climate, and adequate water amounts for each part of your landscape. This will help your plants stay healthy, keep your water bill low, and increase the longevity of your landscaping for years to come.

Plants And Trees

Living in the desert does not have to be dry and boring.  There are many plants that can grow and are beautiful here in Phoenix if they are cared for properly. How your property looks and benefits you has a lot to do with how the lawn and yard are maintained.  Properly maintaining trees in the landscape is another huge factor in how your overall yard looks.  Poorly trimmed or maintained trees can cause damage to your home, office or vehicles in parking lots or driveways and could cause premature death or disease to the trees.

Weeds, Weeds, And More Weeds

The condition of turf or grass can also have a huge affect on the beauty of your property.  A lawn that is not mowed at the proper height or frequency can cause browning and disease, costing more money in fertilizer and water.  Or turf that is not properly weeded out will easily be overrun with a jungle of weeds all over. And don't forget the landscaping that is covered in rocks; I'm sure you know how much of a nuissance it is for weeds to crop up and how widespread they are.

When selecting a lawn care service provider for  your home, always remember you get what you pay for.  So choose a Phoenix lawn care service and landscape maintenance provider wisely. Leave the dirty work to the lawn care professionals that know what's best for your unique landscape system in the desert conditions of Phoenix, Arizona. Yes, you can have a beautiful landscape here if you leave it up to the professionals!

What to look for in a lawn care company

Friday, January 16, 2015

A home’s purposefully-designed and well-maintained residential landscape not only creates instant curb appeal and adds value to the whole neighborhood, but also instills a sense of pride in home ownership. Since many residential landscapes often include  waterfalls, rocks, materials indigenous to Arizona, and grass,  maintaining that beautiful aesthetic is often time-consuming and even physically challenging, especially beneath Arizona’s sultry sun. Taking the time to sift through the many lawn care companies to find the perfect one will be worth it in the long run. Here are some tips on what to look for regarding lawn care companies:

Select a company that specializes just in lawn care services.

The old adage, “Jack of all trades, master of none” applies to many fields, including lawn care.  By finding a company that is focused on all-things lawn-related,  you’ll be hiring a company that can offer the best options for your property, as well as one that can answer all your questions and handle your property professionally. While lawn care services certainly can possess many diverse professional and personal skills ~ an ability to interact well with others, strength and stamina, common sense, and an ability to care for the details while keeping the big picture in mind, all of those skills should ultimately contribute to their expertise in the one industry of lawn care (vs. a lawn service that also happens to do roofs, unclog drains, and move people’s personal property, too).

Select a company that has references, referrals, & other happy campers.

Before signing any contract or agreeing to any ongoing service, it’s important to find out what previous and current customers write, say, and share online (and in your local grocer's line) about the experiences they’ve had with the lawn care service you are considering. No matter how much a company advertises, offers specials, or sends out mailers, word-of-mouth advertisement will always be the absolute best form of advertising. By taking the time to read the rants and reviews of other customers regarding their personal experiences with the lawn care companies you’re considering, you’ll be better equipped to make a more-informed and confident decision. You’ll get first-hand unique insight into how the company operates, how they handle customers, and how they fare in their customer service skills. Ask the company you’re considering for referrals. If they say they can’t give out that information, ask them to share your name and phone number to several of their customers. Clients who are satisfied with a service are happy to share their experience with others.

Select a company that offers free quotes.

Since all lawns and landscapes are unique to each property, you’ll want to get estimates in writing of how much the services will cost to create and/or maintain a beautiful yard. You shouldn’t have to pay for the initial consultation or that estimate. If a lawn care service company is not willing to come out to your home, free of charge, to access your property’s needs, find one that will!

Select a company that is a member of the Better Business Bureau.

While there are certainly many reputable lawn care companies that have operated for years without being a member of the BBB, those that are members instantly add an unspoken level of integrity to their business credentials because not every business owner who applies gets accepted. By being a member, the owner agrees to operate his/her business at the high level of standards set forth by the BBB.

Taking the time to do your due diligence when looking for lawn care companies will help you find one you can count on for years.

Lawn Care Service In Phoenix

Monday, December 08, 2014

When most people think of Phoenix, they envision a dry landscape with virtually no vegetation. But for those of us that live in the Phoenix Metro area we know how diverse our city landscape can be. With great growing weather and irrigation you can grow just about anything in Phoenix. Most home owners figure this out quickly and before you know it your weekends are consumed with caring for your lawn. So let us ask you a few questions.

  1. Do you live in the Phoenix metro area and have lawns?
  2. Do you usually have both the summer "Bermuda" and the winter "Rye" grass?
  3. Are you tired of maintaining your lawn year after year?
For many of you the answers to all these questions are, "Yes".  The good news is you can stop spending your time doing all that yard work and get back to doing the things you love, like spending time with family, friends and enjoying your hobbies.

Lawn Care Freedom Phoenix

Why not hire a professional lawn care service like Desert Vine? We will provide all types of services dedicated to maintaining both summer and winter lawns here in Phoenix.

When looking for a lawn care service these are some things for you to considered before hiring a lawn care service.

  1. Decide on what you want done weekly and even monthly. Do you just want standard lawn maintenance with the typical mowing, weeding, and clean up? Also consider what you may need in the future such as any irrigation problems, tree trimming, landscape design, etc. Ask your potential lawn care provider if they handle such matters, as their services may not suit all of your needs. At Desert Vine we handle all aspects of lawn care maintenance, tree trimming and landscape design.
  2. Investigate the lawn care service company. Ask for references and any other questions you may feel you need to know such as how long have they been in business. Word of mouth does go a long way! Maybe you see their work in your neighborhood, so feel free to ask the homeowner's what they think of the company they use. Desert Vine has been operating in Phoenix for over 15 years and we maintain an A+ Rating with the Better Business Bureau
  3. Always seek value in the services that are provided to you. Often times the least expensive option is not the best option. Many service companies will offer low upfront costs, but then hit you with higher costs later. Others will not provide a complete list of services and then charge additional for each new request. At Desert Vine our pricing is straight forward and upfront.
  4. Have them write up a contract as it will be for your protection. It can prevent any problems or misunderstandings for both parties involved. Have them outline what will they will be doing for you so you won't get surprised with any hidden fees.
  5. Don't forget to ask about billing. Is it monthly or how I do I expect to be billed.

Now is the time to take back your weekends and enjoy or free time. Or maybe even start a side business to earn some extra cash. Hiring a lawn care service maybe the best decision you make this year. So give Desert Vine a call today, ask for John Metz and then go play some golf!

Desert Museum Hybrid Palo Verde
This is a great shade tree, an excellent specimen, can take full sun and is low maintenance once established.  This tree is highly desirable due to rapid growth, thorn less, has a strong upright branch structure, dramatic yellow flowers that are seasonal and retains insignificant

When grown in containers, most trees and shrubs as well as cacti and succulents can be planted year-round in arid climates.  However, succulent plants are dug and delivered bare root, the warm season is the best planting time, preferably mid-spring rather than fall.

Watering in the beginning is critical to all newly planted species.  The first four to six weeks may require daily irrigation.  Do not over-water.  The root ball of all shrubs, trees and succulents need moisture to develop and encourage new root growth.  After (4) four to (6) six weeks, the irrigation schedule may be modified to an every-other or every-third or fourth day program.  You must visually inspect the newly transplanted specimen.  Nothing will replace a visual review followed by an adjustment to the bubbler, emitter or automated timer schedule.

Please call with any questions on irrigation times and frequency for most native trees, shrubs and succulents.
